Design
The Garmin Fenix 6X Pro Solar has an extremely robust and robustly built watch case with a diameter of 51 mm, specifically designed for extreme outdoor conditions. The case is made of fiber-reinforced polymer with a metal back, elegantly framed by a premium titanium or Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coated titanium watch ring (bezel). The interface is fully controlled via five physical buttons on the sides, ensuring reliable operation with gloves on or in wet conditions. With a superior 10 ATM water resistance, the hardware can fully withstand swimming, diving and heavy water sports. The watch case uses the wide 26 mm QuickFit quick-change clasp for watch straps.
Display
The round 1.4-inch display uses an energy-efficient, transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) technology with a resolution of 280 x 280 pixels. This panel excels in extreme outdoor conditions: the brighter the sunlight shines on the screen, the clearer and sharper the data fields become readable without consuming extra battery power. The display top layer is equipped with Garmin's innovative Power Glass; This transparent lens directly converts sunlight into extra battery life. The screen supports a permanent display (Always-On) and has a manual backlight for nighttime use.
Performance
Under the hood, the Fenix 6X Pro Solar combines a powerful navigation architecture with an extensive ABC sensor package, consisting of a barometric altimeter, an electronic 3-axis compass and an automatic barometer for weather changes. The positioning system connects to multiple global satellite systems (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo) for ultra-stable route and speed tracking in challenging environments such as deep valleys or dense forests. The wrist-based Elevate heart rate monitor and Pulse Ox sensor continuously measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation, which is essential for high-altitude acclimatization.
Battery and Solar Power
Battery management delivers unprecedented endurance thanks to integrated solar technology. In regular smartwatch mode, the internal battery offers up to 21 days of autonomy, which can be extended by 3 additional days via sun exposure (at 3 hours per day in 50,000 lux). In full GPS tracking mode, the battery lasts up to 60 hours, with an additional 6 hours of solar boost. For extreme expeditions, the clock can function for up to 46 days (+ 10 days with solar power) via the Expedition GPS mode, while the pure battery saver mode provides a maximum runtime of 80 to 120 days. Charging takes place via the physical, brand-specific Garmin charging cable on the back.
Software and Functionalities
The watch runs on Garmin's proprietary closed interface and syncs deeply with Android and iOS via the Garmin Connect application. Thanks to the generous 32GB of storage space, the software has pre-installed TopoActive topographic maps of Europe, detailed maps of more than 2,000 ski resorts worldwide and 41,000 golf courses. Users can store up to 2,000 songs locally via Spotify, Deezer or Amazon Music for offline listening via Bluetooth headphones. The software also introduces advanced performance metrics such as PacePro for pace guidance based on incline angles, ClimbPro for real-time climbing statistics, the recovery time advisor and the trusted Garmin Pay feature for contactless payments from the wrist.
