Are Apple Watches waterproof?
Are Apple Watches waterproof?
Apple Watches are not waterproof. They are water-resistant, which means they can handle light splashes and brief exposure to water, but they are not designed for prolonged use in water or complete waterproof protection.
Understanding Water Resistance Ratings
Apple Watches are tested under controlled conditions and are assigned ratings such as:
- Apple Watch Series 2 and later: Water-resistant to 50 meters (ISO Standard 22810:2010) – suitable for swimming in shallow water, not for diving or high water pressure.
- Apple Watch Ultra: Water-resistant to 100 meters – suitable for recreational diving up to 40 meters, but not for professional diving.
These ratings apply to brand-new watches. Over time, the seals and adhesives that provide water resistance may weaken.
Why Refurbished Apple Watches Are Less Water-Resistant
- Seals and gaskets naturally degrade over time.
- Heat, cleaning, and previous use can weaken water resistance.
- Opening a device during refurbishing or repair can reduce its water resistance.
Activities to Avoid
To prevent damage, do not expose your Apple Watch to:
- Swimming in the ocean or swimming pools (especially those with chlorinated or saltwater)
- Showering, bathing, or saunas/steam rooms
- Diving, water skiing, or activities involving high water pressure
- Prolonged immersion in water
What’s Covered by Our Warranty
Our 12-month warranty covers technical defects such as screen, battery, or performance issues. It does not cover liquid damage or accidental damage. This is because water resistance cannot be guaranteed for refurbished devices.
Quick FAQs
Are Apple Watches waterproof?
No. They are water-resistant, not waterproof. Water damage is not covered by our warranty.
Can I swim with my refurbished Apple Watch?
We do not recommend this. Even if the model was originally designed for swimming, seals degrade over time, and water resistance cannot be guaranteed.
Is liquid damage covered by the warranty?
No. Our warranty does not cover water or liquid damage to Apple Watches.
What is safe to do with an Apple Watch?
Light splashes, rain, or washing your hands. Avoid submersion, swimming, or exposure to high water pressure.
