The Apple AirPods Max are over-ear wireless headphones built with a stainless steel frame, telescopic arms and ear cups made of anodized aluminum. Controls are via a physical Digital Crown for volume control and media control, combined with a separate noise cancellation button. The acoustic ear cushions are made of memory foam and attach magnetically.
Screen
No screen present. A status LED on the underside of the right earcup indicates battery and pairing status.
Performance
Powered by two Apple H1 chips (one in each earcup) with 10 audio cores each for computational audio. The headphones feature specially developed 40 dynamic drivers mm, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ and Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking. A total of nine microphones are integrated: eight for noise cancellation and three for voice recording (two of which are shared with ANC). The devices also support hands-free activation of Siri via “Hey Siri”.
Battery and Ports
The device provides up to 20 hours of listening time, talk time or movie playback on a single charge with Active Noise Cancellation or Transparency Mode enabled. Charge in 5 minutes via the Lightning port provides the system with approximately 1.5 hours of listening time. When the headphones are placed in the included Smart Case, they automatically switch to an ultra-low power mode to preserve battery life. Wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.0 for pairing with Apple devices and Android devices.
